In an interview with a Cleveland radio station, former Braves pitcher John Rocker cited 1998-multiple times-in reference to Sammy Sosa and Marc McGuire's home run chase. Rhetorically, he asked if there was anything more exciting.
The answer: probably not.
According to ESPN.com, the avergae major league baseball ticket rose to $27.73 this season. At just over $50, the Yankees and Red Sox had the highest averages per ticket.
With rising payrolls, Toronto and the LA Dodgers each saw their average ticket rise over 20 percent. Tornto's increased nearly 30 percent (29.6).
With ticket prices on the rise, a TV in air-conditioned comfort seems pretty enticing. And don't even get me started on the food and bathroom lines.
Couple that with baseball getting put on the backburner by the NBA playoffs and the start of football, baseball needs something.
Crazy as it may sound, this could be their something. Say what you want, but John might not be off of his rocker.
