The Jacksonville Jaguars and kicker Josh Scobee let their contract negotiations come down to the wire, but they eventually agreed to a 4 year, $13.8 million contract extension!
Scobee wanted to stay in Jacksonville all along and the Jaguars wanted him here, but the Jags GM Gene Smith finally gave in and did what they had to do. I understand their view of MJD, but this is different. Scobee has been the team's most reliable weapon over the last several season, and being a kicker he couldn't ask for much when looking at the overall scheme of a football roster.
Just happy our MVP is locked up to score field goals and do kick offs for the Jags the next few seasons! Way to go Gene Smith and Josh's agent!
Another one bites the dust — Jacksonville Jaguars rookie defensive end Odrick Ray was arrested over the weekend in Tulsa for outstanding traffic warrants — According to reports, Ray was pulled over just before midnight Friday evening for speeding and not wearing a seat belt. SEC commisioner Mike Slive, who is about to turn 72, says he has unfinished business with the SEC and will be with the conference for at least a couple more years. His contract was set to expire in a couple weeks and many believed he would retire, but he put those rumors to rest at the SEC Media Days this week in Birmingham, AL.
He's working on new TV contracts for the SEC and says those meetings are "scheduled throughout this summer." Slive also expects conference commissioners to gather in September to begin finetuning the new four-team playoff system, including revenue distribution and selection committee criteria.
